Hilly came to Patrick as a term puppy. Her mother was sold on the condition that she be bred once and Patrick would get the pick puppy. When Patrick went to look at the litter and make his choice, he wasn't really impressed with any of the puppies. He felt Hilly was the best of a bad bunch and brought her home at 8 weeks. He had no intentions of keeping her. A small red brindle bitch, what she lacked in style and elegance she made up for with spunk and an outrageous attitude. She might have been little and plain -- but she kept the house hopping!

Since no one wanted to buy her, we decided to go ahead and show her. Her show career was short, but exciting. She finished her Canadian championship in only a few shows and won Best of Breed at the CCCC National Specialty from the classes -- a win her son would repeat 3 years later. In the states she finished in just a few weeks with straight majors. Her first time as a special she was BOS at the Delaware Valley Specialty. She placed in her sweeps class at the National and made the cut in the specials ring. That was the end of her show career. The only time she would appear in the ring again would be as a brood bitch entry. She won the brood bitch class at the 1990 National Specialty and the 1991 Del. Val. Specialty.

Hillary's lasting contribution to the breed will come from her children. She produced 5 litters, 13 champions and a group placer or winner in each litter. Her kids have also done well in the performance arenas. They have provided the foundation for many new kennels. Her 13 champions are just the tip of the iceberg -- she would have had many more if we had placed her puppies in show homes. With her first litters we just didn't realize the potential she had for producing excellence. She has many beautiful puppies in pet homes.

Hilly is living in a retirement home with a Pembroke male for her to boss around. She now keeps that house hopping. Almost every comtemporary Phi-Vestavia champion has her in their pedigree. I sure am glad Patrick brought her home that day many years ago and no one wanted to buy her!!

Hilly's daughters and sons are some of the top producers in the breed. I'm so very proud that Hillary's legacy will live on through her children.
